Harold Joseph Nowak, age 82, of Silver Lake passed away on Tuesday, December 27th, 2016 at Abbott-Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis.
He was born on August 25, 1934 in Hale Township, McLeod County the son of Joseph F. & Elizabeth (Chmielewski) Nowak.
Harold honorably served his Country in The United States Armed Services from 1955-1957.
On October 28, 1958, Harold Nowak and Alice Wawrzyniak were joined in holy marriage at St. Adalbert’s Catholic Church in Silver Lake. God blessed their marriage with four children.
As a young man, Harold drove truck for Reml Brothers, had a canned milk route. He worked twenty-six years at Sterner Lighting and drove a dump- truck for Gordon Mikulichek. Harold also was employed for five years for The City of Silver Lake.
Harold was a faithful member of Holy Family Catholic Church and was the former church custodian at St. Adalbert Catholic Church. He also belonged for twenty seven years to The Silver Lake Fire Department, to The Degree of Honor and was a former member of The American Legion Post # 141.
He was a finish carpenter and enjoyed wood working.
Harold helped Alice with “Music in the Park”.
Survived by loving wife: Alice Nowak; four children: Russell Nowak, Dale (Sue) Nowak, Terry Nowak and Mary (Paul) Stifter; three grandchildren: Ben (Amber) Stifter, Jenni (Cory) Behrendt and Mitch Nowak and significant other Kacie Walker; three great grandchildren: Ellie, Broox and Cayden; special family member Shiko (Naoki) Yamada and their sons Kota, Shuta and Haruta; siblings: Patrick (Shirley) Nowak, Patricia Lueck, Gary (Kay) Nowak and Linda (Chuck) Randt; an aunt: Lillian Novak; brother-in-law: Louie (Aggie) Wawrzyniak, a sister-in-law: Dorothy “Duff” Novak; many other relatives and friends.
Preceded in death by his parents, sister Charlotte Carlson, a brother Dennis Novak, father-in-law and mother-in-law Peter and Mary Wawrzyniak and by a sister-in-law Ceil (Ervin) Haekenkamp.
A Concelebrated Mass of Christian Burial for Harold Nowak will be held on Tuesday, January 3rd, 2017 at 10:30 A.M. at Holy Family Catholic Church in Silver Lake. Concelebrants will be Father Tony Stubeda and Father Paul Schumacher.
Interment with military rites will follow at St. Adalbert Cemetery.
A visitation will be held on Monday, January 2nd, 2017 from 3-7 P.M. at The Maresh Funeral Home in Silver Lake. A Rosary will be recited at 5:00 P.M. A Prayer service will be held at 6:30 P.M. Further visitation will be held on Tuesday morning, January 3rd from 9-10 A.M. at the funeral home.
Casket Bearers will be Dave Nowak, Bob Nowak, Randy Wawrzyniak, Rick Wawrzyniak, Pete Swartzer and Doug Jurek.
