Edwin LaMott Obituary

Edwin Walter LaMott, age 99, of Silver Lake, MN passed away on Saturday, March 2, 2024 at Cedar Crest Estates.

He was born on November 23, 1924 in Mendota Heights, MN the son of Joseph & Elizabeth (Rozeske) LaMott.

He was around two years old when he and his family  moved to Silver Lake.

Ed honorably served his Country in The United States Army during World War II serving in the Philippians. He served from 1943-1945.

On August 18, 1948, Edwin W. LaMott and Dorothy E. Benkowski were joined in holy marriage.   God blessed their marriage with four children Roxi, Nancy, Connie and Bruce.

Ed was a faithful member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Silver Lake.

Ed and Dorothy lived on the home farm in Winsted Township where Ed engaged in farming and did a lot of custom work.   In 1962, Ed and his brother Marcel took over the Livestock Hauling from his dad.   Ed hauled livestock to South St. Paul for sixty-one years and retired after it closed down in 2008.

He was a avid member of The Silver Lake American Legion.  Ed was one of the oldest World War II Veteran’s in McLeod County.   He served in the Color Guard with the Silver Lake Legion and was so proud to be a part of it for over seventy-years.    He was also a member of The Knights of Columbus, The Sportsmen’s Club and DAV.

Ed was currently residing at Cedar Crest Estates in Silver Lake where he loved to visit with people, play cards, participate in activities and enjoyed listening to all types of music.

Ed is survived by his children: Roxi Chrast of Silver Lake, Nancy (Kevin) Trnka of Lakewood, Colorado, Connie (Vern) Thiemann of Winsted and Bruce LaMott and special friend Jenny Konerza; 10 grandchildren: Jeff (Cassie) Chrast, Jason (Jen) Chrast, Derrick Chrast, Devin Chrast, Blake (Amber) Trnka, Angela Trnka, Brandon (Jill) Thiemann, Aaron (Kelsey) Thiemann, Brady (Sarah) LaMott and Tyler (Jessica) LaMott; 16 great grandchildren; siblings: Delores Fiecke of Silver Lake, Janet Stibal of Lester Prairie and Earl LaMott of Burnsville; other relatives and friends.

Preceded in death by his wife Dorothy E. LaMott on March 20, 2017, son-in-law Loren Chrast, daughter-in-law Carrie LaMott, siblings Clarence & Mabel LaMott, Zoa & Lanny Fasching, Marcel & Annette LaMott, Louis Fiecke, Ronald Stibal and Gail LaMott,  in laws Virgil & Vera Fruetel, Wilmer & Lilly Damman, Orlin & Ella Graupman.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Edwin “Ed” LaMott will be held on Saturday, March 9th, 2024 at 10:30 A.M. at Holy Family Catholic Church in Silver Lake.   Father Matthew Wiering will be the Celebrant.   Alice Nowak will be the organist for the Mass.

Interment with military rites will follow at Holy Family Cemetery.

A Visitation will be held on Friday, March 8th from 4-7 P.M. at The Maresh Funeral Home in Silver Lake.   A Knights of Columbus Rosary will be recited at 6:15 P.M. followed by Parish Prayers at 6:30 P.M.   Further visitation will be held on Saturday morning, March 9th from 9:00 A.M. until 10:00 A.M. at the funeral home.

Casket Bearers will be Jeff Chrast, Jason Chrast, Derrick Chrast, Devin Chrast, Blake Trnka, Angela Trnka, Brandon Thiemann, Aaron Thiemann, Brady LaMott and Tyler LaMott.
