Cyril Joseph Popelka

Cyril Joseph Popelka, age 94, of Glencoe passed away on Saturday, November 19th, 2016 at Glencoe Long Term Care.

Cyril was born on January 20th, 1922 in Rich Valley Township, McLeod County, the son of Joseph L. & Josephine (Koktan) Popelka.

Cyril attended The Minnesota School for the Deaf in Faribault and later Dunwoody Institute.  He also attended Gallaudet University for the Deaf in Washington, D.C.

On September 6, 1952, Cyril Popelka was joined in holy marriage to Evelyn Huncha at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Delano.  God blessed their marriage with four children.

He was engaged in dairy farming in Rich Valley Township.  Cyril loved his grandchildren, animals, gardening, trains, baking, reading, and watching baseball on T.V.

Cyril was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Silver Lake.  He also belonged to The Catholic Workman.

Survived by daughters, Rita (Peter) Juul of Shakopee, Judy (Kevin) Corrigan of Burnsville and Sharon (Merle) Schuette of Glencoe; a son, Michael Popelka of Glencoe, six grandchildren, a step grandson, a great grandson, a sister, Martha Urban of Silver Lake and many other relatives and friends.

Preceded in death by his wife Evelyn, his parents, an infant sister Josephine, brother Theodore “Ted” Popelka, and two sisters, Mary Popelka and Gladys Ardolf.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Cyril Popelka will be held on Wednesday, November 23rd at 11:00 A.M. at Holy Family Catholic Church in Silver Lake.  Father Paul Schumacher will be the celebrant.  The Mass will be ASL interpreted. Interment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery.

A visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 22nd from 4-8 P.M. at the Maresh Funeral Home in Silver Lake.  A Rosary will be said at 5:00 P.M. and Parish Prayers at 7:30 P.M.  Further visitation will be held on Wednesday morning, November 23rd from 9:30-10:30 A.M. at the funeral home.

Casketbearers will be grandchildren, Peter and Jeff Juul, Michael and Megan Corrigan and John and Jillian Schuette.
