David Francis Ondracek, age 80 of Hutchinson, passed away Thursday, October 18, 2018 at Abbott Northwestern Hospital. He was born June 10, 1938 in Hutchinson, the son of Frank and Helen (Marvan) Ondracek.
David graduated from Hutchinson High School class of 1956. He honorably served in the National Guard for 7 and a half years, and was currently a member of the Silver Lake American Legion Post 141. David was a dedicated farmer all his life. He was also a Charter Two Cylinder Club member, served 33 years on the Sumter Insurance board, was a three time past president of Gopher Campfire, on the fair board for many years, Township of Hutchinson supervisor for 41 years, and a lifetime member of the Czech Brethren Presbyterian Church -now known as Faith Presbyterian Church in Silver Lake.
On January 10, 1959, David Ondracek and Darlene Prochaska were united in marriage at the Czech Brethren Presbyterian Manse in Silver Lake.
David enjoyed playing cards (He would be the first to tell you what a good player he was!), summer and winter fishing, spearing, visiting with family and friends, tinkering with his John Deere tractors and engines, road tripping, and old-time music as well as Johnny Cash and Elvis.
His quick wit and “D.O.isms” will be missed by all.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Helen Ondracek; parents-in-law, Frank and Dora (Rivers) Prochaska; sister-in-law, Dolores Pieper; and many aunts and uncles.
David is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Darlene Ondracek; children, Joleen Nowak, Donna Engelen (Mike), Dave “Goober” Ondracek (Sally Aubol) all of the Silver Lake/Hutchinson area; sisters, Doris Wraspir (Glen) of Silver Lake, Mary Brelje (Butch) of Glencoe; grandchildren, Kelli Nowak (Kelly Anderson), Cory Nowak, Jennifer Schuette (Mike), Jill Vasek (Brandon Woytcke), Michael Vasek (Cleo Ritter), Morgan Ondracek, Jake Ondracek; step-grandchildren, Ryan Engelen (Samantha), Brandon Engelen (Merrisa), Kelsey Engelen (David); great-grandchildren, Fulton Anderson, Karter Anderson, Harper Schuette, William Vasek; step-great-grandchildren, Fiona Engelen, Cameron Engelen; and many nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Visitation will be held Friday, October 19, 2018 from 4:00 to 8:00 PM AT THE CHURCH. Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 20, 2018 at 11:00 AM, with visitation one hour prior, at Faith Presbyterian Church in Silver Lake. Interment with military rites will be held at Bohemian National Cemetery in Silver Lake.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred. No individual acknowledgement will be mailed.
