Irene Marion Micka (nee Svanda), age 95, of Hopkins passed away on Tuesday, September 10, 2019.
She was born in Hale Township, McLeod County the daughter of Joseph and Mary (Ondracek) Svanda on July 24, 1924.
Irene graduated from Silver Lake High School in 1941 and was class Valedictorian. She was the first woman from Silver Lake High School to go to college. Irene graduated from Macalester College.
On June 22, 1946, Irene M. Svanda and Richard A. Micka were joined in holy marriage at Czech Brethren Presbyterian Church in Silver Lake. God blessed their marriage with two children.
Mrs. Micka was formerly involved in education and later became a school librarian.
She spent decades doing family genealogy. Irene also enjoyed traveling. She especially was fond of going to The Czech Republic because of her Czech heritage.
Irene also volunteered to do tax preparation work for the elderly and for low income people.
She was a member of American Legion Post #141 Auxiliary.
Survived by a loving son: Curt Micka of Minneapolis; a brother: Ernest Svanda of Silver Lake; a sister-in-law: Dorothy Micka of Glencoe; six nephews and nieces: Bruce Svanda, Bonnie Hahn and Barb Ruzicka; Randy Micka, Nancy Rantanen and Joan Micka; other relatives and friends.
Preceded in death by her husband Richard A. Micka in 2004, a daughter Carol Ann Micka in 1978, her parents, a sister-in-law Beverly Svanda and by a brother-in-law David Micka.
Funeral services for Irene M. Micka will be held on Wednesday, September 18, 2019 at 2:00 P.M. at Faith Presbyterian Church in Silver Lake. Reverend Buck Day will officiate.
Interment Faith Presbyterian Cemetery.
Visitation will be held AT THE CHURCH on Wednesday, September 18th beginning at 12 Noon.
Casket Bearers will be Curt Micka, Ernest Svanda, Bruce Svanda, Becky Gorman, Bonnie Hahn and Barb Ruzicka.
