Martha (Popelka) Urban

Martha Urban, age 91, of Silver Lake, MN passed away Saturday, February 17, 2018 at Cedar Crest in Silver Lake. 

She was born July 12, 1926 in Glencoe, MN, the daughter of Joseph L. and Josephine (Koktan) Popelka.

Martha graduated from Glencoe High School and began working as a secretary at the Mill in Glencoe.  After raising her children, she went back to school for a secretarial degree and began working at the Silver Lake State Bank.

On June 30, 1953, Martha was united in marriage to Willard Urban at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Silver Lake, MN.  This marriage was blessed with six children.  Willard and Martha resided in Silver Lake while sharing fifty-eight years of marriage before Willard’s death in 2011.

Martha was a faithful member of the Holy Family Catholic Church and involved in many church activities throughout her life.  She was also a member of the Silver Lake Women’s Club, Catholic Workman, and The American Legion Auxiliary.  Martha and Willard enjoyed world travels but Martha always missed her family and was happy to return home.  Willard and Martha enjoyed fishing, especially at their cabin.  Martha was a true Czech baking kolaches for family and friends and always happy when there was old-time music playing.  Martha loved being with family and especially her grandchildren.

Survived by children, Wanda (Gordon) Konerza of Prior Lake, Polly (Charles) Munkberg of Mechanicsburg, PA,  John Urban of Chaska, James Urban (Liz Sopok) and Patrice (Mark) Mickolichek of Silver Lake;  grandchildren Ellen (Abe) Konerza, Ross (Rochelle) Konerza, Elise (David) Konerza, Josie (Alex) Henderson, Andrea Wendlandt, Sara (Ian) Wyffels, Seth, Mathew, and Will Mickolichek;  great-granddaughter Audrey Henderson. 

Martha was preceded in death by her husband Willard and daughter Jan; her parents, an infant sister Josephine, brothers Theodore Popelka and Cyril Popelka, sisters Mary Popelka and Gladys Ardolf and may other relatives and friends.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Martha Urban will be held on Tuesday, February 20th, 2018 at 10:30 A.M. at Holy Family Catholic Church in Silver Lake.  Father Michael Doyle will be the Celebrant.  Interment Holy Family Cemetery.

A visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 20th beginning at 9:00 A.M. until time of Mass AT THE CHURCH.

Casket Bearers will be Ross Konerza, Elise Konerza, Seth Mickolichek, Sara Wyffels, Matt Mickolichek and Will Mickolichek.
