Martha Blanche (Madlo) Wilkins, age 91, of Silver Lake passed away January 29, 2017.
She was born on March 24, 1925, in McLeod County, Minnesota the daughter of Josef & Martha (Jancik) Madlo.
She attended Silver Lake Public School and District #12.
Martha was confirmed at Faith Presbyterian Church in Silver Lake.
She worked in the defense plant at San Diego, CA, and at the Naval Training Base during World War II. Here she met and married Donald Wilkins on May 4, 1946 at the North Chapel, Naval Training Center, San Diego, CA. During their time in the service they lived in Honolulu Hawaii, Tokyo Japan, Washington DC, and Chanute, IL and spent some time in Chico, TX.
After Don’s retirement from the service they moved to Glencoe, MN in 1961. They shared thirty six years of married life until Don passed away in 1982.
In September 1993, Martha moved to Lakeside Manor Senior Residence in Silver Lake. She enjoyed walking, playing cards, crocheting, puzzles and of course Bingo.
She was an active member of the American Legion Auxiliary, The Degree of Honor, Senior Citizens and Nutrition Site of Silver Lake.
Martha is survived by many nieces, nephews and step-nieces and step-nephews.
Martha is preceded in death by her Parents Josef Madlo and Martha (Jancik) Madlo Honzalek, Stepfather Emil Honzalek, Brothers Stanley Madlo and Joseph Madlo, Stepsisters Mildred Simon and Martha Chastek.
They had no children.
Funeral services for Martha Wilkins will be held on Saturday, February 4th, 2017 at 11:00 A.M. at Faith Presbyterian Church in Silver Lake. Reverend Carol Chmielewski will officiate.
Interment will follow at Faith Presbyterian Cemetery.
A visitation will be held on Saturday morning, February 4th at the church one hour prior to services.
Jackie Rossi will be the organist for the funeral service.
Casket Bearers will be six Legionaires from Silver Lake Post #141.
