Rose Ella (Knoll) Wanous

Rose Ella (Knoll) Wanous, age 93 of Cokato, formerly Silver Lake, passed away on June 13, 2019.

She was born on June 30, 1925 in Silver Lake, MN to Martin and Ella (Rivers) Knoll. She spent her childhood and earlier years living on the farm.

Eventually she met James Wanous, and the two were joined in marriage on April 18, 1944 at St. Joseph Church in Silver Lake. Together they raised seven children.

Rose was known for her warm and caring personality; she was happiest taking care of her family. Always wearing an apron, she would often cook large meals for her family and friends, making sure everyone was well fed and took home leftovers to enjoy the next day. Not only was she a great cook, she was also skilled in canning everything from strawberries and raspberries from her garden, to various meats from the farm.

She loved to dance, play cards, and tend her bountiful gardens. When she would find time, she would knit, crochet, and quilt many projects for her friends and family.

Rose is preceded in death by her husband, James; son, Myron; an infant at birth; parents, Martin and Ella Knoll; step-father, Oscar Webb; brothers, Clemens, Richard, and Damis Knoll; several step-siblings; son-in-law, Merlyn Miller; brother-in-law, Elmer; and sisters-in-law, Della and Joyce Knoll.

She will be missed by her surviving family members: children, Millie (Butch) Kunkel of Darwin MN, Shirley Miller of Hutchinson MN, Robert (Melissa) Wanous of Hutchinson MN, Larry (Linda) Wanous of Cokato MN, Harry Wanous of Texas, Jolene (Dale) Kosek of Silver Lake MN; 21 grandchildren; several great and great-great grandchildren; sister, Bernice Retzlaff; brother, Leroy (Marion) Knoll; half-sister, Carol (Larry) Walz; step-sister, Artis (Harold) Shriner; step-brother, Clinton Webb; sister-in-law, Vera Knoll; and many other relatives and friends.

A visitation will be held Tuesday, June 18, 2019 from 4:00 PM – 8:00 PM at Maresh Funeral Home in Silver Lake, MN. Rosary will begin at 5:00 PM and a brief prayer service will be held at 7:30 PM. Further visitation will be held the following day, Wednesday June 19, 2019 at 10:00 AM at Maresh Funeral Home.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, June 19, 2019 at 11:00 AM at Holy Family Catholic Church in Silver Lake, MN. Interment to follow at St. Joseph Cemetery in Silver Lake. Father Tony Stubeda will be the celebrant.

Justin Miller, Brad Wanous, Tyler Kosek, AJ Zvorak, Lane Wanous, and Jimmy Kunkel will serve as Casket Bearers.
