Cecelia Valaria (Blazinski) Gundvaldson was born on November 20, 1923 in Silver Lake, MN to Helen (Jurek) and John Blazinski. She passed away Saturday, January 22, 2022 in Mankato, MN.
Cecelia worked at Honeywell when she met Palmer Gundvaldson through a friend in Minneapolis, MN. They married on May 13, 1950 at St. Stephen’s Church in Minneapolis, and later Cecelia and Palmer raised their family in Bloomington, MN until retiring to Silver Lake, MN in 1991. In 2009, they moved to Tucson, AZ. Palmer passed away on November 2, 2011, and Cecelia continued to live there until moving to Mankato, MN in 2020.
Cecelia was an avid baker and could always be found creating her wonderful meals, homemade bread, kolaches, and chocolate chip cookies. Her grandchildren’s favorite was her homemade buttermilk waffles! She was a crochet phenom and could create beautiful doilies. She could also create clothes for old-fashioned dolls. Cecelia would can all of the wonderful vegetables that were grown in the garden.
Cecelia is survived by her five children: Chuck (Jane) Gundvaldson of Tucson, AZ; Wayne (Jane) Gundvaldson of Gretna, NE; Lynn (Lisa) Gundvaldson of Tucson, AZ; Kathy (Todd) Schwartz of Elysian, MN; and John (Steve) Gundvaldson of Tomball, TX.
She is also survived by seven grandchildren: Anna Gundvaldson, Kellie (Colin) Hayworth, Brenda (Ryan) Larsen, Amy (Jake) Smith, Brandon (Nici) Schwartz, Holly (Chris) Workman, and April (Daren) Hansen; thirteen great-grandchildren: Owen and Brody Hayworth, Ainsley and Jace Larsen, Isabelle Schwartz, Cody, Ruth, Sam, Morgan, Eli, Hope, and Addy Workman, and Alaina Hansen; and sister-in-law, Joann Carthel of Sioux Falls, SD.
Cecelia was preceded in death by her husband, Palmer; parents; sisters: Marie, Mabel, Adeline, infant sister, Alice; and brothers, Ernest and Clem.
Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, April 1st, 2022 at Holy Family Catholic Church in Silver Lake, MN at 10:30 AM. Interment will follow at Fort Snelling National Cemetery at 2:00 PM in assembly area #2.
