Charles H. Christensen

Charles “Chuck” Howard Christensen, age 64, of Hutchinson passed away on Tuesday, September 1, 2015 at The St. Cloud Hospital.

He was born on November 20, 1950 in Hutchinson the son of Howard & Helen (Prochaska) Christensen.

Chuck was baptized on May 11, 1951 by The Reverend N. B. Hansen.  He was also instructed in the Lutheran catechism and confirmed in the Christian faith on May 16, 1965 by The Reverend Joseph Anderson.

Chuck graduated from the Hutchinson High School in 1968 and later attended Hutchinson Vo-Tech School for welding.

He honorably served his Country in The United States Army from 1970-1972.  He was a Viet Nam Veteran and was awarded a Purple Heart, two Bronze Stars, Combat Infantryman Badge, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, National Defense Service Medal and a Sharpshooter Badge with a Rifle Bar.  Chuck belonged to American Legion Post # 96, V.F.W. Post # 906, was a member of Disabled American Veterans, National Arbor Foundation and of The N.R.A.

On February 19, 1994, Charles H. “Chuck” Christensen & Sharon A. Sturges were joined in holy marriage at Faith Lutheran Church in Hutchinson.

Following his military service, he engaged in dairy farming in Hutchinson Township, McLeod County with his father and brother. Chuck was employed for twenty seven years at McKimm Milk Transit.  He was formerly employed at J & J Milk Transit, Barrick Well Company and at Schmeling Oil Company.

Chuck was instrumental in founding The McLeod County Sheriff’s Posse and was a longtime active member of the Posse.

He was fond of motorcycles, camping, horses and loved spending time with his grandchildren.   Chuck was always a man you could go to with any problem and he would listen to you.  He never judged anybody when they were having troubles.  He helped many people throughout his life with their problems.  He loved to tell stories and made up many for the children in his life.

Chuck was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Hutchinson.

Survived by loving wife: Sharon A. Christensen; five step children: Sherry (Larry) Benedict, John (Jenni) Rannow, Shawn Rannow, James (Jessica) Rannow and Matthew Rannow and special friend Rebecca Cacas; seventeen grandchildren; a sister: Joyce (Willie) Johnson; a brother: Tom (Kathy) Christensen; mother-in-law: Margaret Sturges; brothers in law and sisters-in-law: Steve (Sandy) Sturges, Barb (Gene) Ribar, Donna (Tom) Orwoll and Sam Flom; many nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.

Preceded in death by his parents, father-in-law Kenneth Sturges, sister-in-law: Sylvia Sturges and Brenda Flom and by a brother-in-law: Jack Andersen.

Funeral services for Charles H. “Chuck” Christensen will be held on Sunday, September 6th at 2:00 P.M. at Faith Lutheran Church in Hutchinson.  Pastor Paulus Pilgrim will officiate.  Mike Lauer will be the organist for the funeral service and Bobbi Ludewig the soloist.

Interment with military rites will follow at Bohemian National Cemetery.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, September 5th from 4-8 P.M. at The Maresh Funeral Home in Silver Lake.  Further visitation will be held on Sunday, September 6th at the church one hour prior to services.

Casket Bearers will be Les Johnson, Larry Prochaska, Steve Sturges, Jim Christensen, Steve Brecht and Elmer Telecky Jr.

In lieu of sending acknowledgement cards and flowers, memorials are preferred to The American Cancer Society.
