Edward John Havelka, Jr., age 79 of Glencoe, MN, passed away November 22, 2023. Born on August 31, 1944, in Glencoe, MN, Edward was the son of Edward Havelka Sr. and Dorothy (Kuras) Felepe.
Edward's life was one marked by service, dedication, and love. He enlisted in the Army on March 21, 1962, and proudly served his country until March 10, 1964, achieving the rank of Private First Class. His time in the military shaped his character and instilled in him values of discipline, loyalty, and selflessness.
In 1966, Edward married the love of his life, Judith Novak, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Silver Lake, MN. Their union was a source of strength and companionship, enduring for over five decades. Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, and shared memories.
Professionally, Edward dedicated many years of his life to 3M. His work ethic and commitment were evident in all that he undertook.
One of Edward's greatest joys was found in his workshop, where he spent countless hours crafting birdhouses and other projects. These handcrafted treasures became his signature gift to friends and family, a testament to his skill and thoughtfulness. A natural problem solver, he could always be found fixing or repairing something around the house. Edward found solace on his family farm, cultivating a vibrant garden that reflected his love for the land.
Edward's true passion, however, was reserved for his family, especially his beloved children and grandchildren. While he may have presented a tough exterior, those fortunate enough to know him understood the depth of his warmth and compassion. He was a soft-hearted patriarch, quick to share a story or offer a helping hand. His generosity, kindness, and caring nature touched the lives of everyone he encountered. He also had a love for animals, especially his pet dogs.
He is preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Bernie Havelka.
Edward is survived by his wife of 57 years, Judy; children, Kimberly Smith (partner John Weseloh), David (Teri) Havelka, and Lynn (Brian) Jensen; grandchildren, Jeremy Havelka (fiancé, Kelsey), Nick Halveka (special friend, Cheyenne), Brandon Havelka, Michael Havelka, and Tyler Smith; great-granddaughters, Hailey Havelka, Leah Penaz, and Hannah Penaz; siblings, Donnie (Marlene) Havelka and Gene (Char) Havelka; sister-in-law, Pauline Havelka; and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
Special thank you to all EMS staff at the Glencoe Hospital for their kindness and care provided to our family.
