Elaine Quale, age 83, of Glencoe, Minnesota, passed away on Easter Sunday, April 5, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. Elaine was born on July 23, 1942, in Turtle Lake, North Dakota, to Robert and Emma Grosz. She was known for her kindness and generosity—qualities that touched the lives of everyone who knew her. Elaine was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, greatgrandmother, sister and friend who deeply cherished her relationships. She found her greatest joy in spending time with those she loved. She faithfully attended her grandchildren’s events, was always up for a trip to Dairy Queen, and loved traveling—no matter the destination. When she made a friend, they were friends for a lifetime. Her phone conversations were numerous and lengthy, keeping up day to day with them all. Elaine enjoyed her flowers. She loved to create beautiful flower gardens and cascading flowerpots that she enjoyed all season long. She treasured her time at the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum and was eager to take anyone with her that wanted to go. She was an avid crossstitcher who created many cherished pieces for her family and lovingly made ornaments each year. Elaine was deeply rooted in her faith and found great joy and fellowship in her community at River of Hope Church. Elaine’s devotion to her family—especially her grandchildren—knew no bounds. She and Arnold moved whenever needed to support their daughters and grandchildren through college, a reflection of how deeply she valued family, education, and being present for those she loved. Elaine’s professional life began as an English teacher, and she continued to play an instrumental role in education through various positions within the school system, including special education. Her love for language and learning extended into her family life, where her skills were put to good use proofreading homework and encouraging her children and grandchildren to spell correctly and always produce a “good paper.” Elaine was always ready for a meaningful conversation, never shy about sharing her thoughts, and delighted in reminiscing. Elaine is survived by her daughters, Ranita (Gregg Hodgson), Michelle (Gregg Nistler), and Treisha (Greg Batcher); her five grandchildren, Zachary, Nash, Abbie, Jordan, and Max; her greatgrandchildren, Noah, Briggs, and baby Westlund on the way; her sister, Loretta Davis; her brothers, Don, Fred, Bill, Mick, and Roger; and many other loving relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Arnold Quale; her parents, Robert and Emma Grosz; and her sister, Lorraine. Elaine will be lovingly remembered for her warm heart, helping hands, and the deep love she shared with her family. Her legacy of kindness will live on in all who were blessed to know her.
Inurnment Fort Snelling National Cemetery on Tuesday, April 21, at 9:00 A.M. Assembly Area #4.
