Florian “Floyd” Leo Goranowski, age 94 of Winsted, formerly of Cokato, passed away Sunday, November 1, 2020. He was born June 12, 1926, the son of Anthony and Clara (Bachinski) Goranowski.
At age 17 Floyd started working for the Stockholm Township Board building and maintaining all the roadways, but his dream was to become a farmer. He began farming by renting land, equipment and animals from a retiring farmer and saved up enough money to purchase his own 80 acre family farm in Stockholm township. Over the next 60+ years the farm operation grew to almost 500 acres of crops and had dairy, beef, pigs and chickens. Floyd and his wife, Harriet, were a great team on the farm, also having their sons help. In 2016, Floyd and Harriet moved to Winsted.
Floyd was a dedicated member of St. Adalbert’s Catholic Church and Holy Family Catholic Church in Silver Lake. He worked many annual bazaars and fish fries.
On September 9, 1947, Floyd and Harriet (Peterson) were united in Holy Matrimony at St. Adalbert’s Catholic Church in Silver Lake. God blessed their marriage with three sons: Norman, Ronald and Larry.
Floyd was a member of the Knights of Columbus in Silver Lake. He enjoyed camping, playing cards, dancing, restoring old tractors and driving them in parades, going to threshing shows, snowmobiling, going out to eat, and spending time with his family and friends. Floyd was a hard worker and great mechanic. He was very giving and always willing to lend a hand. By example he instilled the value and rewards of working hard onto his sons and grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his son, Ronald Goranowski; parents, Tony and Clara Goranowski; and sister, Marcella (Jim) Esenrich.
Floyd is survived by his wife of 73 years, Harriet Goranowski; sons, Norman (Nancy) Goranowski and Larry (Marla) Goranowski; grandchildren, David Goranowski, Bonnie Goranowski, Shannon (Aaron) Hendrickson, Chad (Gillian) Goranowski; great-grandchildren, Logan, Colton, Mila, Hayes; and many other family and friends.
