Helen Marie Nowak, age 93 of rural Silver Lake, died July 6, 2015.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Helen Nowak will be held Saturday, July 11 at 10:00 a.m. at Church of the Holy Family in Silver Lake.  Father Paul Schumacher will be the celebrant and Alice Nowak the organist for the funeral Mass.  Interment will be in the Holy Family Catholic Cemetery.

Visitation will be Friday, July 10 from 4-7 p.m. at the Maresh Funeral Home in Silver Lake.  Prayer service will be held at 6:30 p.m. and a CCW Rosary at 5:00 p.m.  Further visitation was from 9-10 a.m. at the funeral home.

Casket bearers for Helen were Adam Nowak, Dean Schiro, Barney Nowak, Brian Webb, Dale Jaskowiak and Leo Nowak.

Helen was born on August 26, 1921 in Hale Township, McLeod County, the daughter of Thomas and Mary Kaczmarek Jaskowiak. 

On November 24, 1941 Helen was united in marriage to Edward J. Nowak at the St. Adalbert Catholic Church in Silver Lake.  God blessed their marriage with two children.

Helen and Edward were engaged in dairy farming for many years in Hale Township.  She loved the ducks and poultry that she raised on the farm.  Helen loved growing a vegetable garden and had many beautiful flowers including violets, ferns and zinnias.  She always loved old time music with her favorite being Wee Willie.  Helen enjoyed all these things but where she really shined was her cooking.  There were many thrashing crews and family members that will remember her pies and soups.

Helen is survived by her daughter Janet Schiro; son Wayne (Julie ) Nowak; grandchildren Dean (Amanda) Schiro, Adam and Arlene Nowak; great grandchildren Erek and Megan Schiro; sister-in-law Mary Jaskowiak; brother-in-law Carol Webb; also many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents Thomas and Mary Jaskowiak; husband of 71 years Edward; sisters Alice Webb and Violet Grzeskowiak; brother Ernest Jaskowiak; infant brother Leonard Jaskowiak; son-in-law Fritz Schiro.
