Leo Joseph Mallak, age 91, of Silver Lake passed away on Thursday, February 4, 2016 at Cedar Crest in Silver Lake.
He was born on February 21, 1924 in Silver Lake MN to Joseph and Rose (Getz) Mallak.
Leo was baptized and confirmed at St. Adalbert’s Catholic Church in Silver Lake MN.
On July 12, 1949 he was united in marriage to Marietta Kieser and they resided together near Silver Lake where they farmed and milked cows. Together they raised seven children and shared 53 years of marriage until Marietta’s death in February 2003.
Besides farming, Leo drove sweet corn truck for Green Giant and later worked at Dura-Supreme in Cokato MN.
Leo enjoyed polka music and dancing, gardening, playing with his dogs, loved family visits and the antics of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was a life-long member of St. Adalbert’s/Holy Family Parishes and strong in his faith.
In 2015 Leo moved to an assisted living apartment at Cedar Crest in Silver Lake where he received much friendship and care from many wonderful people until his passing.
Leo is survived by his sons: Gary (and Pam) Mallak, Ron (and Jeanette) Mallak, David (and Chris) Mallak, and Duane (and Cheryl) Mallak; his daughters: Kathy (and Tom) Urban and Carolyn (and Jack) Getz; son-in-law Gary Hennessey; fourteen grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren, his sisters-in-law Pearl Kieser and Corrina Hagen, and several nieces and nephews.
Leo was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Marietta, his daughter Susan Hennessey, and his sisters. May God bless his memory.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Leo Mallak will be held on Tuesday, February 9th at 10:30 A.M. at Holy Family Catholic Church in Silver Lake. Father Paul Schumacher will be the Celebrant. Interment will follow at St. Adalbert Cemetery.
Alice Nowak will be the organist for the Mass.
A visitation will be held on Monday, February 8th from 4-8 P.M. at The Maresh Funeral Home in Silver Lake. A Rosary will be recited at 5:00 P.M. Monday evening and a Prayer Service will be held at 7:30 P.M.
