Leona A. Nowak passed away on Wednesday, August 17th, 2016 at Glencoe Regional Health Services Long Term & Hospice Care after a battle with cancer.
She was born on August 20, 1951 at the Hutchinson Community Hospital. Her parents were Leo J. and Angeline I. (Kuras) Nowak of Silver Lake.
Leona was baptized, received Solemn Communion and Confirmation all at St. Adalbert Catholic Church in Silver Lake.
She attended grade school at St. Adalbert Catholic School. Her high school years were at Silver Lake Public School and she graduated in 1969.
Leona was unfortunate to get polio at 14 months of age. However, she did waitress work during high school summer vacation time and on weekends. Later she became employed at 3M in Hutchinson, where she worked for two months short of 40 years. She enjoyed her jobs and the people she worked with.
Leona lived in Hutchinson and enjoyed gardening and other chores working outdoors. She also enjoyed going to the farm and helping there also. Leona loved flowers, especially if they were yellow. She liked to fish and was sometimes lucky to get a good sized northern. Leona also loved music.
She was a talented person who did some quilting and needlework like counted cross-stitch. Leona liked to read, go out to eat with her family, visit the Arboretum and she liked to cook and had some favorite recipes.
Leona is survived by her brother: Leo; two sisters: Veronica and Joann; an aunt: Valeria Rozeski and an uncle: Stanley and his wife Mary Ann Nowak; and also many cousins,
Preceded in death by her parents Leo J. and Angeline Nowak, grandparents John and Anastasia Kuras, John and Mary Nowak, aunts and uncles Leo and Clara Kulinski, George and Angeline Kaczmarek, Edward and Helen Nowak, Art and Bernice Nowak Sr., George Chap Sr., Casimer Rozeski, Rose Trnka Dressler, Henry Trnka, Harold Dressler, Fred and Lottie Urban and Ernest and Betty Kuras.
A Concelebrated Mass of Christian Burial for Leona Nowak will be held on Monday, August 22 at 10:30 A.M. at Holy Family Catholic Church in Silver Lake. Father Paul Schumacher and Father Tony Stubeda will be the Concelebrants. Alice Nowak will be the organist for the Mass. Shirley Nowak will be the Reader.
Interment will follow at Holy Family Cemetery.
A visitation will be held on Sunday, August 21st from 3-6:30 P.M. at The Maresh Funeral Home in Silver Lake. A C.C.W. Rosary will be recited at 4:30 P.M. with a Prayer Service at 6:15 P.M. Further visitation will be held on Monday morning, August 22nd from 9:00-10:00 A.M. at the funeral home.
Urn Bearer will be Leo J. Nowak.
