Mary Ann Mallak Obituary

Mary Ann Mallak was born in Winsted Township, McLeod County to Hubert and Eleanore (LaMott) Haekenkamp on April 28, 1935. She was baptized at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Winsted by Rev. William Wey. She received her First communion and Confirmation at Holy Trinity and 12 years of Catholic education, graduating in May 1953. Mary Ann married Robert Mallak on May 22, 1954 at Holy Trinity. The ceremony was performed by her cousin, Rev. Edward Grzeskowiak. They were blessed with four children, Thomas, David, Donna, and Mark. They shared 54 years of marriage before Robert passed away in 2008. They lived in the Twin City area for 23 years before moving to Silver Lake in 1976. She was the accountant and hands on helper in building homes for the construction company she and Bob owned. She also held jobs at Chaska Schools, Glencoe Regional Heath Center, Silver Lake Schools, and the City of Winsted. She was a faithful member of Holy Family Church, CCW, and Rosary Society. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Senior Citizens Club, and the Red Hat Society. She held offices in many. Mary Ann loved dancing and belonged to the Pla-Mor Dance Club and the P.O.L.K of A for over 30 years. She and Bob attended polka fests across the states and Canada. It was for the love of dancing that she started the Senior Dances in Silver Lake. She was active in the community including being chairman and treasurer of the Pola Czesky committee, treasurer of the Silver Lake Centennial Committee, and helped organize the 1st all school reunion for Silver Lake School. She enjoyed fishing, collecting recipes, fireworks, activities with the grandchildren and parades (especially being able to see the Rose Bowl parade in person.) She had a great sense of humor, liked telling jokes, being a prankster, and watching others having a fun time. She clipped newspapers and had advice and information on any subject. She was always the caregiver but did not want to be a bother to anyone herself. She was deeply loved and will be greatly missed. Survived by Children: Thomas of Hutchinson, Donna (Steve) Holmberg of Long Lake, David (Wendy) and Mark (Teresa) of Silver Lake. Grandchildren: Robert (Angel) Holmberg, Laura Holmberg (Mike Freeman), Martin Mallak, Isabell (Cole) Willock, and Lilianna Lee Mallak (fiancé Daniel Spangler).
