Maurice (Moe, Red) Mahon, 87, of Glencoe, passed away Tuesday, January 11, 2022, at home surrounded by his family.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held Monday, January 17, 11 a.m. at St. Pius X Catholic Church in Glencoe, with visitation one hour before. Rev. John Hayes will celebrate the Mass, with burial at the Glencoe Catholic Cemetery.
Moe was born July 7, 1934 in Hollywood Township, Carver County, Minnesota to Paul and Catherine (McCormick) Mahon and was the youngest of five children.
Moe worked in the construction industry for over 40 years. He started construction with George Madsen & Sons in 1953. In 1973, he became a Construction Superintendent with M.A. Mortenson. He supervised numerous projects throughout his career: Glencoe Senior High School, C Concourse at MSP Airport, United/Children’s Hospital, Lutheran Brotherhood Building, LaSalle Plaza/YMCA, V.A. Medical Center, Carlson Towers and the Biosciences Building at the University of Minnesota.
Moe married Gloria Schade on September 26, 1953 at St. Peter & Paul Church in Glencoe. They raised their eight children in the Glencoe area. Moe was a long-time member of the St. Pius X Catholic Church, where he served on the building committee, cemetery board, was an usher and member of the Knights of Columbus. He received the Community Service Award from the Holy Family Catholic Aid Association. He was also a long-time member of the Glencoe Lions Club.
Moe was a great Irishman who loved to sing, loved to dance and loved his grandchildren.
Moe is survived by his loving wife, Gloria; his eight children, Cathy Mahon, Jim (wife Pat) Mahon, Dennis (wife Marja) Mahon, Moe (wife Carolyn) Mahon, Bob (wife Patty) Mahon, Rose (husband Dwight) Koning, Chris (friend Katie) Mahon, and Kelly (friend Tina) Mahon; twenty grandchildren Ed (wife Lauren) Wuethrich, Joe (wife Kim) Wuethrich, Kate Mahon, Dan Mahon, Mike (wife Samantha Rumschlag) Mahon, Mikko (friend Suvi) Mahon, Maija (friend Panu) Mahon, Jack Mahon, Jackie (husband Jason Hesse) Mahon-Hesse, Tom (wife Dani) Mahon, Deanna (husband Matt) Craft, Ray (wife Sanna) McKaig, Bridget (husband Bill) Neja, Sean (wife Taryn) Koning, Abby Mahon, Zachary Mahon, Megan Mahon, Devin (friend Mackensie) Mahon, Maddie (fiancé Chase Lee Berhew) Mahon, Kian Mahon. Twenty-two great-grandchildren: Emma, Alex, Noah, Sasha, Conner, Bodhi, Mckenzie, Makenzie, Avery, Cayleigh, Charlotte, Gavin, Alina, Grace, Aulis, Liam, Lorelei, Lola, Josie, Killian, Easton and Duke and one great-great-grandchild Ella. Sister, Mary Mackey; Brother-in-law, Don Schade; Sister-in-law, Mabel Schade, many nieces and nephews.
Moe is preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Catherine (McCormick) Mahon, sisters and brother-in-laws Margaret and Thomas Rogers, Rose and Daniel Erickson, brother and sister-in-law Mark and Florence Mahon, and brother-in-law Pat Mackey; son-in-law Patrick Blair. Father-in-law and mother-in-law William and Adele Schade, step father-in-law, Rudy Wenger, sister-in-laws and brother-in-laws Gertrude (Gordon) Listrud, Delores Schade, Willard Schade, Clarence Schade, Marilyn ‘Lovey’ (James) Jurek, and Donna Schade.
