Michael Condon Obituary

Michael C. Condon, age 80, of Renville, Minnesota was born on May 27, 1944 and went to Heaven on Monday, July 1, 2024.

According to his younger sister, Diane, Michael was a smart, sweet little boy who loved baked breads and cookies.    When he was 2 years old, Michael had a high fever and suffered seizures until he was 5.   Grandma and Grandpa took him to St. Cloud, Mayo and the University of Minnesota hospitals, but the doctors could not figure out what was wrong.  During this time, he developed a high fever of 106 degrees that lasted for 3 days.   Despite the valiant efforts of their family friend, Elsie Mundt, she and the family members would give Michael ice baths, alcohol baths, etc., but to no avail.  Because of this high fever for so many days, it took away Michael’s brain function.

Michael’s brothers and sisters helped Grandma take care of him. By age 14, he got too big to handle.   He went into State run asylums in Cabridge and Willmar.

In early 1970’s, Michael was sent to a very good facility in Redwood Falls; he even worked at an Adult Habilitation Facility doing menial tasks.   After quite a few years, he was living with four men in a group home with 24/7 staff care.    About 10 years ago, Michael was move to their company’s group home in Renville.   The two group homes were built with the same floor plans.   On the day that Michael arrived and moved in-he went to “his room, without being shown it first, to take a nap.

Recently, Michael was moved to The Renville Nursing Home.   It is a very nice and unique looking place.   There are trees and flowers in the lobby, the dining room looks like a city park with lots of trees and patio tables.   The exterior of most rooms used different “siding”, some are blue, tan and some had wood shakes, etc.   Even at 80 years old, Michael still loved his fresh baked goods and loved receiving hugs.  The care givers at Redwood Falls and Renville always stated that Michael was calm, peaceful and easy to care for.

When Michael passed away the other day, he was welcomed into Heaven by God, Jesus, the Holy Spirit, the angels and all the saints, and many relatives: Grandma Marie and Grandpa Bill, his siblings Cathy (Ray) Ewald, Howard (Myrtle) Condon, Tom (Virginia) Condon, Lanora (Alvin) Schlueter, Betty (Harold) Maresh, Ardella (Joe) O’Fallon and Patrick Condon.  They are all smiling with us today because we came together for Michael.   Grandma Condon has the biggest smile on her face, because he is free of his afflictions and she finally gets to be with her little boy, Michael again.

Survived by a sister: Diane (John) Bastien of Arlington, Massachusetts; nieces, nephews, other relatives.
