Obituary

Mildred Marie, 93, passed away peacefully at Our Lady of Peace Hospice Home on July, 21, 2022.

Mildred was born on January 12,1929 on her family’s farm in Silver Lake, MN. She was the first of 2 children of Fred and Marie Friauf. Mildred loved growing up on the farm, and she could often be found in the barn, or fields helping her dad with the chores.

During high school she would spend the summers in Hopkins, MN picking berries, and then she had a job candling eggs in Silver Lake.   After high school Mildred worked at the Ben Franklin store, and a bank in Hutchinson, MN. She then worked, and retired from her job as file clerk for the Teachers Retirement Association of Minnesota. She loved to travel both by land and air. She spent many winters in Texas with dear cousins/friends Pat and Elaine Kubesh. She loved to spend time with family, work in the yard, and tell a good story. She was an avid Twins fan.

Mildred was a faithful, and lifetime member of Faith Presbyterian Church in Silver Lake.  While living in St. Paul, and still driving, she made it to church almost every Sunday.

Mildred was a proud, and doting aunt. She was always ready to lend a helping hand, and enjoyed attending all the band concerts, and sporting events.

Mildred loved her home of 51 years in St. Paul. She had a good relationship with her neighbors, and especially adored the little boy next door. She called him “the manager”, and spent a lot of time with him picking raspberries, teaching him how to take care of the plants, and sitting on the back step contemplating life.

A big thank you to Visiting Angels Little Canada for the excellent care they provided for Mildred in her home these past few years. Especially her nurse Lori, and caregivers Teresa, Chantal, Dena, Mary Ellen, and Lydia.

We would also like to thank the staff at Our Lady of Peace Hospice Home for the compassionate care they provided to our family in her last days.

She was a strong, independent, sweet, patient lady with beautiful hair, and she will be missed.

Preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Marie, sister-in-law Elaine Friauf, niece Diane Adam, and nephews Doug and Duane Friauf.

Survived by her brother Roger Friauf, niece’s Donna (Mike) Bushway and Darla (Jim) Mariette, several cousins, 5 great nieces and nephews, and 2 great-great nieces and nephews.
