Richard Gene Rotzien, age 87, of Hutchinson passed away on Wednesday, November 8, 2023 at his residence.
He was born on November 22, 1935 in Hutchinson Township, McLeod County the son of Richard & Genevieve (Jensen) Rotzien.
Richard was baptized as an infant Methodist and converted and confirmed Catholic at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Silver Lake.
He was joined in holy marriage to Patricia Vacek on September 8, 1956. God blessed their marriage with five children.
He graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1953.
Richard honorably served his country in the United States Air Force as Airman 1st Class from 1954-1958 as a Nuclear Weapons Specialist.
He was formerly employed as an electrical engineer at Honeywell and later transitioned to sales & marketing.
Richard enjoyed the outdoors; fishing, hunting, and working in his yard. He spent time maintaining his apple orchard and bee keeping. Richard enjoyed traveling and camping. He especially loved when their family and friends gathered at the farm.
Survived by his loving wife of sixty-seven years: Patricia Rotzien; children: Karen Lawrence (Dan) and their family Jennifer Nelson (Travis) Bekett; Dominic Lawrence (Sara) Harper, Nora, Ava & Easton; Heidi Foley (Ryan) June & Archer; Sue Corby (Bill)) and their family: Elizabeth Luedtke (Joe) Brea & Brantley; Ryan Corby (Krista Beyer); Caitlin Paulsen (Andrew) Keagan & Finely; Jason Corby (Emily) Ethan & Emerson; Wayne Rotzien (Jena Alford) Travis Rotzien (Maddy); Chad Rotzien (Lee Ann) Fred Pa; and Paul Rotzien (Patty) and their family Logan Rotzien (Delia) Elliana & Maisie; Garrett Rotzien. Additionally, many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Preceded in death by his parents Richard & Genevieve Rotzien, parents-in-law Michael & Anna Vacek, brother Robert Rotzien and his wife Margaret, a sister Doris and her husband Russell, a sister Marjory Plath and her husband Lowell and by a brother-in-law Milan Vacek.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Richard Rotzien will be held on Wednesday, November 15th, 2023 at 11:00 A.M. at Holy Family Catholic Church in Silver Lake. Father Matthew Wiering will be the Celebrant. Reader will be Travis Nelson.
Private Interment with military rites Oakland Cemetery in Hutchinson at 1:45 P.M.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 14th from 4-8 P.M. at the Maresh Funeral Home in Silver Lake. A Prayer Service will be held at 7:00 P.M. Further visitation will be held on Wednesday morning, November 15th one hour prior to Mass at the funeral home.
Casket Bearers will be Dominic Lawrence, Ryan Corby (honorary), Jason Corby, Travis Rotzien, Logan Rotzien, and Garrett Rotzien.
