Robert Frank Sopkowiak, age 70, of Silver Lake passed away on Wednesday, January 27th, 2016 at Cedar Crest.
He was born on July 24, 1945, in Hutchinson the son of Frank & Agnes (Phillipp) Sopkowiak.
Robert honorably served his Country in The United States Army.
On February 24, 1967, Robert F. Sopkowiak and Jutta Brocks were joined in marriage in Wiesbaden, Germany. God blessed their marriage with three daughters.
He was formerly employed at 3M for thirty six years.
Robert enjoyed motorcycles, traveling, fishing, hunting and working in his shop.
He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Silver Lake and also belonged to The Silver Lake American Legion Post and The Silver Lake Sportsman’s Club. He was a past president of the Sportsman’s Club and a Chaplain of The American Legion Post.
Survived by his wife: Jutta; three daughters: Melissa (Brian) Ortloff, Michele (Mark) Mlinar and Monica Sopkowiak and fiancé Chris Everson all of Hutchinson; grandchildren: Nick (Jenny) Ortloff of Hutchinson, Michael Ortloff of Sartell, Paige, Kaitlyn and Andrei Mlinar all of Hutchinson; a sister: Kathleen (Jerry) Thissen of Hutchinson; three nephews, other relatives and friends.
Preceded in death by his parents, an infant brother Frank and by his father-in-law & mother-in-law Emil & Hilde Brocks.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Robert Sopkowiak will be held on Monday, February 1, 2016 at 11:00 A.M. at Holy Family Catholic Church in Silver Lake. Father Paul Schumacher will be the Celebrant.
Interment with military rites will follow at St. Adalbert Cemetery in Silver Lake.
A visitation will be held on Sunday, January 31st from 4-8 P.M. at The Maresh Funeral Home in Silver Lake. A Prayer service will be held at 7:30 P.M. Further visitation will be held on Monday morning, February 1st from 9:30-10:30 A.M.
Urn Bearer will be Nick Ortloff.
