Roger William Ostlie, age 85, of Glencoe, passed away on Sunday, April 19, 2026. He was born on November 9, 1940, in Glencoe to his loving parents, Leonard and Lenora (Bruckschen) Ostlie. Roger honorably served his country in the United States Army from 1961 to 1963. On May 1, 1965, Roger Ostlie married his favorite girl, Elaine Marian Fiala, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Silver Lake. He was incredibly joyful and truly grateful for the love they shared and the five children they raised together. Roger loved working with his hands and with machines. He was brilliant in many ways. He spent many years working at a sand and gravel pit, designed and built his own homes, and a neighborhood full of garages. He became a farmer when called and was one of the best at that. You could see his love for the land, for the animals, and for the hard work he was able to do and the gifts he was able to give. He even knew the birds by name. Rog loved fishing, babies, making furniture, basketball, family vacations, playing cards, watching family sporting events, and sometimes hunting. His mind was always working on something, and he could figure out any problem, it seemed. He was eager to try things, which led to him being the “guy who could do anything” (except float). After retirement, he enjoyed gardening with Elaine. They worked in the kitchen together, making sauerkraut, salsa, soups, and more. He was happy, always whistling, and felt deeply blessed to have such a loving, beautiful family. He loved us all so much. We will miss his quiet insight, his dry humor, his kind, gentle, sweet hugs, and his laugh and smile. Roger was a faithful member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Silver Lake. Survived by his loving wife of nearly 61 years: Elaine M. Ostlie, children: Mike (Karin) Ostlie, Pam (Darwin) Rasmussen, Mark (Heather) Ostlie, David (Sara) Ostlie and Angie (Tom) DeMars; grandchildren: Courtney (Ben) Storlie, Brett (Katie) Rasmussen, Emma Rasmussen, Nora (Brandon) Herman and William Rasmussen, Abby (Ben) Olson, Clare, Eva and Kate Ostlie, Delaney Ostlie-Mikolichek, Isaac & Luke Ostlie, Alan, Mary & John DeMars; great grandchildren: Shepherd Herman, Wynn & Haven Rasmussen, Mason Storlie and baby Herman on the way; sisters: Marlene Hackbarth, Jean Pagel and Gloria Lovett; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law: Mavis, Joyce and Jeanne Ostlie, LuAnn (Will) Riegert, Ray Fiala and Tom (Alana) Fiala; many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
