Ronald “Ron” Makovsky, age 90, of Edina and formerly of Silver Lake passed away on Sunday, September 24, 2023.
He was born on August 7, 1933 to Richard and Rose (Piker) Makovsky.
Ron graduated from Silver Lake High School and later from The School of Agriculture, St. Paul Campus.
He honorably served his Country in The United States Army.
On September 9, 1956, Ron married his “Sunday School Sweetheart” Elamarie “Ellie” Mrazek.
Ron always said he was just an ordinary farm boy who was proud of his Czech heritage. Ron was a faithful, lifelong member of Faith Presbyterian Church in Silver Lake. He was ordained as an Elder and Deacon and served on both boards. Ron also was a member of the Church’s couples club, The Mariners and held all offices. He sang in the church choir for forty-five years. He was the last surviving charter member of The Silver Lake Lions Club. Ron served in all of its offices. He was nominated to be a Lions Governor, but declined. Ron was involved with the McLeod County Food Shelf, Habitat for Humanity and Meals on Wheels.
Following his leg amputation in 2011, Ron remained active doing woodworking, making toy trucks and trains and donating them to charitable groups such as Blizzard Blast and The Tim Orth Foundation.
On October 23, 2003, Ron and Karen Hendricksen were married.
Survived by son: Todd (Hiromi) Makovsky of California; daughters: Beth (Daniel) Nowak of Silver Lake and Anne (Kevin) of Nevada; grandchildren whom Ron was especially proud of: Dr. Ken (Louise) Makovsky, Gene Makovsky and fiancé Erica Cabral and Nicholas; great grandchildren: Ryland, Keone and Ariah; nephews.
Preceded in death by wife Ellie, his parents Richard and Rose Makovsky, parents-in-law Dr. & Mrs. Mrazek, sister Emelie (Phil) Scott, a nephew Don Scott, a brother-in-law George Mrazek and second wife Karen Hendricksen.
A Memorial Service for Ron Makovsky will be held on Friday, September 29th at 2:00 P.M. at Faith Presbyterian Church in Silver Lake.
Private Interment Faith Presbyterian Cemetery.
A visitation will be held at The Maresh Funeral Home in Silver Lake on Thursday, September 28th 4-8 P.M.
