Shirley Vorlicek

Shirley Jeanette Vorlicek, age 79, of Silver Lake passed away on Sunday, July 14, 2019 at St Mary's Hospital in Rochester.

She was born on April 1, 1940 in Renville, Minnesota the daughter of Victor C. & Armella (Erhard) Miller.

Shirley was baptized, received her first communion and confirmed at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Renville.

On June 18, 1960, Shirley J. Miller and Henry C. Vorlicek Jr. were joined in holy marriage at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church. God blessed their marriage with three children.

The couple made their home on The Vorlicek family farm north of Silver Lake.

She enjoyed traveling, time out at Big Stone Lake with family, baking kolaches with her granddaughters, flower gardening, canning 125 quarts of pickles and made 50 apple pies each year, making homemade wine, sewing, embroidery, volunteering at the Lake Mary VFW events and most of all being a farmer’s wife. She loved to bake things and give them away to make others happy.

Shirley was a faithful member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Silver Lake.   She also belonged to The Rosary Society, C.C.W. and was a Lifetime Member, Historian and Trustee of the Lake Mary VFW Auxiliary Post # 9232.

Through the years Shirley was employed by Northrup King Seed Company, Green Giant, 3M and Hutchinson Technology while raising a family and being a farmwife. She was also 4H Leader of the Silver Seekers 4H Club.

Survived by loving husband of fifty-nine years: Henry C. Vorlicek Jr.; children: Ronald (Laurie) Vorlicek of Silver Lake, Rhonda Decker (fiance Jamie Gutzmann) of Winsted and Kevin Vorlicek of Silver Lake; two granddaughters: Tiffany Vorlicek and Breanna Decker; siblings: Darlene Hayek, Marie Pulkrabek and Robert (Mary) Miller; other relatives and many friends.

Preceded in death by her parents and by a sister Dorothy Lewandowski and by a Godchild Brenda Lewandowski Merriman.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Shirley Vorlicek will be held on Friday, July 19, 2019 at 10:30 A.M. at Holy Family Catholic Church in Silver Lake. Father Tony Stubeda will be the Celebrant. Alice Nowak will be the organist for the Mass.  Rosalie Knott will be the reader.

Interment St. Joseph Cemetery.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, July 18th from 4-8 P.M. at The Maresh Funeral Home in Silver Lake. A Rosary will be recited at 5:00 P.M. and Parish Prayers at 7:30 P.M. Further visitation will be held at the funeral home on Friday, July 19th beginning at 9:00 A.M.

Casket Bearers will be Tiffany Vorlicek, Breanna Decker, Roger Knott, David Knott, Wayne Nowak and Marvin Kuras.
